Overview
Nairobi, Kenya – 11th To 14th November 2007
Prague Club
The Prague Club is an international club of 30 emerging market and developing country Export Credit Agencies (ECA’s) and credit and investment insurers which was established by the Berne Union and assisted by funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. As the Prague Club’s first official meeting was held in Prague in 1993, it was named after the city of the inaugural meeting. The Prague Club operates under the auspices of the Berne Union, the club of predominantly OECD and non-OECD emerging market ECA’s and private credit and investment insurers, which was established approximately 50 years earlier.
Objectives
The Prague Club meets twice in a year exchanging information and experience and developing best market practice among its member ECA’s and credit and investment insurers. The primary objective of the Prague Club is therefore to support members and observers (those who have yet to start underwriting business) in developing their export credit and investment insurance schemes and facilities.
As its overall insured trade and investment business volumes have grown to just under $14.5 billion at the end of 2005, the Prague Club has become a thriving entity. Premium income rose to US$101.4 million in 2005 (up from US$98.7 million in 2004) and claims paid by members amounted to US$58 million (up from US$48 million in 2004).
2007 Autumn Meetings
This year the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) will host the Prague Club Autumn Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya from 11th-14th November 2007. This will be the first time that Prague Club Meetings are held on African soil. Some of the topics that will be discussed will be the trends and schemes of all the members, claims handling and a special workshop will be organized on the various policy wordings reflecting best market practice.
